Recently a reader questioned why I was using the 'Eye of Horus' symbol (a special case of the 'all-seeing eye' symbol) on my website.  This is not the first person who's expressed their concern about my use of this symbol on my website.  These days, most people associate this symbol with sinister influence or evil intent.  But this is not it's ancient sacred meaning.  And this is not the meaning that I was intending when I chose to use this symbol as the mascot of my website.

The original meaning of this symbol was that of Divine omniscience, of a benevolent overseer of creation, of the divine spark within each of us, and of spiritual insight.  It is in this vein that I used the symbol on my website.  In modern times, these symbols have been hijacked by a shadowy elite and have lost their original sacred meanings.  Which is really a shame because their original meanings were so beautiful.

If you'd like to explore this topic more deeply a guy named David Hayes has written a great two-part article explaining the whole thing.  Below are the links to those articles.

  1. The All-Seeing Eye: Sacred Origins of a Hijacked Symbol
  2. The All-Seeing Eye: Modern Use of a Hijacked Symbol

Here's a video of an interview with David Hayes that discusses this topic.
