Hatred Does Not Cease by Hatred

The Buddha was a very wise being, and he deeply understood that the world and our experience of life was simply a reflection of our state of mind and state of being. He knew that responding to judgment and hatred by returning the same could only ever perpetuate more of the same, endlessly. He knew, as Jesus did, that the only way to transform the world from one dominated by fear, judgment, condemnation, and retribution was to transcend our fear and judgment and become beacons of unconditional love and forgiveness.
Regardless of whether you understand and embrace the metaphysical reasons for this eternal rule shared by the Buddha, hasn't history amply proven that judgment and retribution doesn't work? Isn't it obvious that this behavior, and the mindset behind it, is exactly what has been sustaining the hatred and strife that has been running rampant on our world for as long as we can remember?
Isn't the never ending cycle of hatred and retribution obvious? When will we wake up? When will we have the courage to try something different and stick to it long enough to see it work?
How close to the brink of self-destruction do we have to come, how much pain must we endure till we find a better way? When will we embrace unconditional forgiveness and love?
Love and light,
